3-year Charity grant application form

The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers' Charity (Registered No 1072172) intends in May 2018 to make a 3 year commitment to a single charity, worth up to £10,000 per year or £30,000 in total. This will be in addition to the continuing smaller grants for one-off projects considered throughout the year.

The process set out below relates ONLY to the 3 year grant to be awarded in May 2018. Causes which have no direct connection with eye health or vision impairment cannot be considered.

Criteria

The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers' Charity (Registered Charity No. 1072172) supports projects to:

  • reduce vision impairment both within the UK and elsewhere
  • support the development of eye heath training and education internationally
  • improve the quality of life of people who have already lost sight.
  • support certain research projects within vision science, through grants to organisations with established peer review processes for assessment and monitoring of specific projects

The Trustees invite and encourage applications which meet one or more of the above criteria.

Applicants should note that the Trustees are looking to fund national or international initiatives which will have a substantial impact, or the results of whose work can be shared widely. The Trustees will expect progress reports, accompanied by good digital images, to be submitted at agreed intervals. Funding for years 2 and 3 will be subject to the delivery of satisfactory interim reports.

3 Year Grant Application Process

To apply for a three year grant, please complete online the 3 Year Grant form below. Applications will not be accepted in any other format. Applicants are advised very strongly to keep within the word count limits and not to try to attach further documents or supporting papers, as these will not be reviewed by the Trustees.

Applications cannot be accepted for amounts exceeding £10,000 per year or £30,000 in total. It is recognised that project costs may be higher in the first year.

All applications received will be acknowledged.

Applicants may be requested to attend in person for an interview with the Trustees of the Charity, at the offices of The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers. The office address is Apothecaries' Hall, Black Friars Lane, London EC4V 6EL. At least 7 days' notice will be given of the proposed dates and times for interviews.

The closing date for applications is 28th February 2018. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of May 2018 and the first payment will be made by the end of June 2018.

Any correspondence regarding applications must be by email and should be addressed to Mrs Helen Perkins, the Clerk, as Secretary to the Trustees at clerk@spectaclemakers.com
